China Oriental Silk Market (Wujiang)

China Oriental Silk Market lies in Shengze Township, Wujiang City, on the southernmost tip of Jiangsu Province. As China's silk capital, Shengze Township has a long history of silk production and trade. As early as the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it had been famous for its wealth of silk. Today, Shengze boasts over 80,000 advanced shuttleless looms, which produce more than 7 billion meters of various types of textiles each year. Accordingly, it is the most important industrial base of silks and textiles in China. Set up in October 1986, by relying on the advantage of the textile industrial clusters in Shengze, China Oriental Silk Market has attracted business people from all over China and such countries and areas as Europe, America, India, Pakistan, Syria, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan etc.

With an area of 4 square kilometers, it has over 5600 companies and business entities, which provide over ten types of and thousands of kinds of real silk, chemical fiber textiles, home-woven cloth, upholstery fabrics, clothing and textile materials each year. It took the first place in terms of trading volume of goods among all the textiles and clothing markets in China for three consecutive years from 2005 to 2007. In 2008 its trading volume of goods amounted to 58.1 billion Chinese yuan. In 2007 it was chosen as one of the first batch of modern service industrial clusters in Jiangsu Province and was rated as the five-star civilized and honest market of Jiangsu Province. In 2008 it was awarded the title of famous service brand of Jiangsu Province.
